Bring your ideas to life in this four-week introduction to screen printing. Designed for all levels of art makers, this hands-on course will guide you through the entire process—coating screens with photo emulsion, using the exposure unit, mixing inks, and carefully registering each layer. Step by step, you’ll create a bold, multi-color print while exploring the creative possibilities of this vibrant medium. The ultimate goal is to create a hand-painted, four-color screen print (without any photo elements).
This class also serves as a gateway into the printshop, equipping you with the foundation and confidence to continue working independently during open studio hours. Whether you’re new to printmaking or looking to expand your artistic toolkit, the skills you gain here will open the door to ongoing exploration and future projects.
Course Breakdown
Week 1: Introduction & First Layer

The class meets on Thursdays for four consecutive weeks, totaling 10 hours.
ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR:
Matthew Forehand is the Printshop Manager at Oolite Arts, and a painter and printmaker based in Miami, Fla. His art reflects a unique perspective, often patchworking elements of nature and the environment from his family home in Colombia and South Florida. He began studying art in his hometown of Pensacola, Fla., and later transferred to The School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC), where he earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. Forehand also had a residency at Ox-Bow School of the Arts in Saugatuck, Mich. His work has been exhibited at the Sullivan Galleries in Chicago, Oolite Arts in Miami Beach, and he also had a solo exhibition at the Art and Culture Center of Hollywood, Fla.
