The Program
The Oolite Arts Home + Away program is a series of four to five-week paid artist residency opportunities hosted at partnering institutions at some of the most prestigious residencies in the country. Along with dedicated hours to work on individual studio practices, Oolite Arts recognizes that time well spent in community with fellow artists is crucial in furthering artistic lives.
This year Home + Away is a multi-week Oolite Arts takeover of:
- MASS MoCA in North Adams, Massachusetts – 4 weeks
- Artpace San Antonio in Texas – 5 weeks
- The Bag Factory in Newtown*, Johannesburg, South Africa – 8 weeks
You can apply to one or apply to all! The selected artists will receive a $2,500 stipend, in addition to coverage of their travel and accommodation costs.
*Selected artists for the Bag Factory will receive a $4,000 stipend, in addition to coverage of their travel and accommodation costs.
Selection Process
Oolite Arts staff reviews applications to ensure completion and eligibility. Submissions are reviewed by a jury of curators and arts professionals. The jury evaluates each candidate and selects finalists.

Program Benefits for MASS MoCA in North Adams, Massachusetts
Benefits include:
- A private, furnished studio on MASS MoCA’s mill campus, with 24-hour studio access and shared slop sinks and bathrooms.
- Housing (private bedroom/queen bed, shared kitchen, and bath) in newly renovated apartments directly across the street from the museum. (WiFi available in both Studios and apartments).
- One communal meal per day in the company of fellow artists-in-residence.
- An optional studio visit with a MASS MoCA curator, and other ways to share their work through artist presentations and Open Studios.
- 1 year access to our Assets for Artists Business Webinars after the residency.
- 3 months of MASS MoCA member benefits, including free access to the museum’s galleries, and discounts on performing arts events and museum store purchases, plus additional access to The Clark while in residence.

Program Benefits for Artpace in San Antonio, Texas
Benefits include:
- A furnished apartment
- A workshop equipped with wood, metal, and computer facilities
- Access to residency vehicles (selected artist must have a valid driver’s license)
- 24-hour access to studio space
- Technical and administrative support and access to art leaders, local artists, and curators
- Wi-Fi access
- At the completion of the program, access to Oolite Arts alumni opportunities.

Program Benefits for Casa Lua in Mexico City, Mexico
Benefits include:
- Private accommodations with ensuite bathrooms
- Ongoing logistical and technical assistance from Casa Lü’s dedicated staff to ensure the success of their projects
- Regular meetings with both the team and fellow residents
- Curated excursions to relevant cultural sites
- Constructive feedback sessions with Casa Lü staff, alongside studio visits and insights from invited members of Mexico City’s art community

- Small Cottage for the duration of your stay in an area of Johannesburg called Melville.

Eligibility and Requirements
Oolite Arts is seeking artists who reside in Miami-Dade County who:
- Are in need of space and time to develop their practices and are committed to actively engage in a takeover at the residency locations.
- Have the ability to commit to work and think collaboratively in a shared studio environment.
- Are seeking to engage in building community and develop artist peers.
- Must be able to attend for the entirety of the Oolite Arts’ Home + Away programs.
What You Need to Apply
- Full contact information
- A short statement of intent addressing why you want to join Oolite Arts’ Home + Away Program and what you hope to accomplish over the course of the residency. (max 500 words)
- A brief description of your practice/research (max 150 words)
- Up to 10 images, 10 pages of written material or 10 video links of recent work
- CV or resume
- A letter of recommendation from someone who knows you on a professional level who can comment on your professionalism and work ethic.

How are you approaching COVID measures?
Each residency has its own strict COVID protocols for all visiting artists. Upon selection, artists will be given guidelines on how to proceed that will be administered by the residency directly.
