Juana Valdes’ artistic practice is grounded in a multi-disciplinary approach that combines printmaking, photography, sculpture, and ceramics. Concepts and materials are transferred among different processes to achieve a similar experience, yet the work’s ultimate visual representation leads the viewer to alternative interpretations. This edition of prints are part of a larger series that recycles a text “Hanging by a nail, a thread, the skin of your teeth.” It references aggression based on a person’s skin color. The text is edited down until these three words are left “Its Your Skin”. The raised text becomes the mark on the paper like a scar on the body.
