Urban Landscape Drawing

This is an ideal class for beginner-intermediate students who want to learn a simple step-by-step process to draw urban landscapes through a system of sketching drawings representing its elements from several points of view.
The class will study shapes, forms, and textures of the different elements of the Urban Landscape: Buildings, houses, skylights, towers, streets, bridges, cars, plazas, monuments, parks, people, etc., being aware of the eye level, depth, scale, and the quality of light and shadows.

The instructor will explain the correct relationship between form and shape through spontaneous sketching drawings of urban landscapes from different points of view.

Students will make drawings of specific Urban landscape areas to study the interconnections of the parts and their proportions, measurements, and representation.

Demonstrations and drawing time with individual critique will focus on proportion, comparison, gesture, forms, shapes, values, tones, light, and shadows.

No previous drawing training is required. The class meets online once a week for four consecutive weeks.

First class: Sketching Urban Landscapes

Second class: Structure of Urban Landscapes

Third class: Elements of the Urban Landscape
● Sketching the forms and shapes of buildings and houses
● Proportions
● Measurements and comparison
● Scale and control size
● Point of view and Perspective
● Drawing using several methods of shading to create a variety of tones
● Monuments, streets, bridges, cars, plazas, people

Fourth class: Shading Urban landscapes
● Sketching including shading
● Interconnections of Forms
● Shading different graphism of lines to represent volume
● Sense of depth by shading
● Modeling tones creating different textures and values
● Shading realistic samples from pictures.

About the Instructor
Pablo Contrisciani earned his Masters in Fine Arts, Painting at Facultad de Bellas Artes, National University of La Plata, in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
He has participated in several solo and group exhibitions locally, nationally and internationally. His work forms part of public and corporate collections from USA, Latin America and Europe. Pablo is an Oolite Arts alumnus (1998-2006 and 2010-2015) and works as a painting instructor since 1998.
