Information
Join local fiber artist and sustainability advocate Pangea Kali Virga for a lively, hands-on workshop exploring clothes painting as a form of contemporary fiber art. This one-day experience is part of a three-part Fiber Art series designed for beginners, experienced makers, and anyone curious about creative reuse and sustainable practices. Participants may register for a single workshop or the full series—each session offers a unique approach, from dyeing and patchwork to painting clothes.
In this playful and creative workshop at Oolite Arts, transform your garments into one-of-a-kind wearable art. Bring items such as jeans, jackets, sneakers, or tote bags to refresh, customize, and reimagine. You’ll experiment with a variety of painting techniques using an array of colorful fabric paints, stencils, fabric markers, and other tools—all provided. Come ready to express your personal style and leave with pieces that reflect your creativity and individuality.
We’ll provide all the supplies and some garments for painting and play.
No experience necessary — all are welcome!
ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR
Born and raised in New York, Pangea Kali Virga now lives and works in Miami. She brings these themes to life through layered fiber artworks, dramatic experiential art and performances, free public sustainable art and skills workshops, and collaborative projects with public and private institutions.
Kali Virga is committed to transforming the art and fashion industries into more sustainable and equitable spaces. She creates art and wearable pieces from upcycled materials and natural elements using zero-waste practices, reflecting her belief in the power of art and clothing as storytellers, cultural markers, and political catalysts. Before becoming an artist Pangea worked in the fashion industry for 10 years as a designer, stylist, runway producer, and production manager.
Beyond her artistic practice, Kali Virga is a sustainability advocate, lecturer, arts event producer, and educator, sharing her expertise with hundreds of student artists of all ages.
Pangea graduated with a degree in Fashion Design from FIT, has been showcased in over 60 international publications, exhibited in over a dozen exhibitions including, but not limited to solo shows at the Deering Estate (2025), and the Miami Beach Botanical Garden (2021), group shows at Green Space (2023+2024), CAMP Gallery (2024), and MOCA (2022+2023), has been awarded multiple grants and residencies, including, but not limited to the Knight Art Champion Grant (2022); Deering Estate Artists in Residence (2023+2024), Project Art Residency (2021-2023), Peter Bullough Foundation Residency (2023), Miami Dade Individual Artist Grant (2022+2023+2024) and the first Community Advocate Award for the annual Zero Waste Miami Coalition Awards.
