Skills: Publishing your work
Emmett Pinsky (Printed Matter, INC) + Gean Moreno
This course will identify the various channels of publishing and provide you with ways of getting your work out into the world. Whether self-publishing or collaborating with a publisher, this session will take you through the processes behind publishing.
About the Speakers
Emmett Pinsky is a bookseller, writer, and editor based in New York City. He is the manager of the artist book store Printed Matter / St Marks, Printed Matter Inc.’s East Village storefront, where he holds publication launches, hosts bookbinding workshops, and curates site-specific installations and exhibitions. Emmett is a founding organizer of the East Village Zine Fair, Printed Matter’s newest book fair co-presented with 8-Ball Community. Favorite projects from 2022 include we web keepers, an exhibition and newsprint publication by Lukaza Branfman-Verissimo; print editions with Tammy Nguyen & Rita Ackermann; and a window display of zines from the Museum of Reclaimed Urban Space archive. Emmett was a member of the selection panel for the Center for Book Arts’ 2022 Workspace Artist-in-Residency program. Outside of the artist book world, he writes about reading, collects diagrams, and plays card games.
Gean Moreno is currently Director of the Art + Research Center at ICA Miami. He was on the Advisory Committee for the 2017 Whitney Biennial and serves on the editorial and advisory committees of several publications and foundations. He is the founder and current co-director of [NAME] Publications, a press dedicated to art and design theory. His texts have appeared in numerous catalogues and anthologies, and he has written for various publications, including e-flux journal, Art in America, Kaleidoscope, and MONU—Magazine for Urbanism. His most recent book, Notes sur la maison moire, co-authored with Ernesto Oroza, was published in French by Cite Du Design, in conjunction with the Biennale Internationale Design Saint-Etienne.
