The Departure will take place over 4 x 48 hours.
The Departure is ownership, released.
The Departure moves from artist to curator, curator to artist.
The Departure is temporality, movement & authorship.
Departure is a collaborative installation by Juan Pablo Garza, GeoVanna Gonzalez, Jillian Mayer, and Joshua Veasey. ArtCenter’s vitrine will unfold and develop over the course of four artistic interventions. The project aims to serve as a testing ground for different methods of collaborative production based on the concepts of temporality, movement, and authorship. The premise is simple: every two weeks, each artist will be given 48 hours to hack into and reconfigure the existing artwork inside the vitrine space. They are free to reconstruct, exchange, and manipulate the constitutive elements of the installation without any guidance or input from their fellow collaborators. Each intervention will offer the next artist a new set of parameters that they may respond to and will slowly merge, into one final piece, by the end of the exhibition. By exploring collective action and thought, Departure questions notions of collective ideas and the possible outcomes that can result from relinquishing control and authorship over to a collective process.
