Diego Gabaldon

Diego Gabaldon (b. 2000, Miami) works at the intersections of competition, masculinity, mass media, and the post-human body. Working across sculpture, image-based work, and installation, he draws from the cultures of bodybuilding and organized sport to investigate how identity and desire are constructed through systems of discipline, spectatorship, and excess. His work often abstracts athletic equipment into apparatuses that frame psychological and bodily states, positioning sport as a surrogate structure through which broader human conditions—such as belonging, transformation, and control—are enacted.

Gabaldon’s projects frequently engage with cultures shaped by intensity and collective behavior, including football ultra-fanaticism and online fitness communities. Through manipulated imagery, fabricated objects, and conceptual branding frameworks, his work mirrors the logics of athletics while exposing their underlying mechanisms through apparatuses that collapse sports equipment into sculptural and psychological devices.

Gabaldon holds a BFA from Tufts University and has exhibited domestically and internationally, including shows at Alyssa Davis Gallery, Oolite Arts, the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Central Saint Martins, and the National YoungArts Foundation.
