How To Collect and Care for Works on Paper
Oolite Arts presents a “how-to” panel on collecting and caring for works on paper, featuring Oolite alumna Rose Marie Cromwell and Collections Manager and Conservator at The Wolfsonian-FIU Silvia Manrique. This talk will be moderated by Oolite Arts Board Member Donnamarie Baptiste.
The panelists will share their experiences in collecting and caring for works on paper as well as general tips to help conserve your beloved artworks in the high humidity of South Florida.
About the Panel
Rose Marie Cromwell
Rose Marie Cromwell is a photographer whose work explores the effects of globalization and the tenuous space between the political and the spiritual. Her first book, “El Libro Supremo de la Suerte” was published in 2018 by TIS books and was awarded the Light Work Photo Book Prize named one of the “25 Best Photobooks of 2018” by TIME Magazine. She has had solo exhibitions at Diablo Rosso Gallery and Antitesis Gallery, both in Panama City, Panama. Her work has also been exhibited at Aperture Foundation in New York, PRIZM Art Fair in Miami, The Philadelphia Photo Arts Center, and The Silver Eye Arts Center in Pittsburgh among many others. Cromwell is recipient of a Fulbright Grant, a Getty Reportage grant, Oolite Creator Award and was a Light Work Artist in Residence.
Silvia Manrique
Silvia Manrique is the Collections Manager and Conservator at The Wolfsonian-FIU museum in Miami Beach, Florida, where she is responsible for the care and organization of the 180,000+ objects in the collection. She received an M.A. in Conservation from the Polytechnic University of Valencia (Spain) and a B.A. in Conservation from the National College of Conservation and Restoration (Mexico). She has over 15 years of experience in treatment, preventive care, housing, framing, exhibition installations, and moving projects of small and large collections. She previously served as Collections Manager and Conservator at Utah Museum of Fine Arts (2007-2012) and completed conservation projects at the Institut Royal du Patrimoine Artistique (Belgium), the Valencia Institute of Conservation (Spain), and in several cultural institutions in Mexico.
Donnamarie Baptiste (Moderator)
Donnamarie Baptiste is a Producer, Programmer, and Curator of Art & Culture. Her work includes programming, exhibition production, administration, marketing, and community engagement. Baptiste has worked with national and international artists, organizations, and art fairs, and has served as a moderator of numerous talks around art and culture.
