About the Artist
Lee Pivnik (b. 1995, Miami, Florida) is a Miami-based artist who graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2018 with a BFA in Sculpture. Working predominantly in ceramic sculpture, video, and social practice, he has a deep reverence for networks, care practices, and other species. In 2017 he founded the Institute of Queer Ecology (IQECO), a collaborative organism that curates programs and communally authors artworks while searching for multispecies utopia. Pivnik has held recent solo or two-person shows at Biosphere 2 (Oracle, AZ), Mild Climate (Nashville TN), and Hotel Art Pavilion (New York, NY). As the Institute of Queer Ecology, Pivnik exhibited with the Guggenheim Museum in 2021, which commissioned an artwork taking the form of a participatory video game from IQECO, titled H.O.R.I.Z.O.N. In 2017, Artspace named Pivnik one of “9 Artists Changing the Way We Think About the Environment”. He has been awarded Knight Arts Challenge Awards in 2019 and 2021, and an Ellie from Oolite Arts (2020). He has participated in the BOFFO Fire Island Residency (2019), and the Atlantic Center for the Arts residency (2021), and is a studio resident at the Deering Estate from March – December 2022.
