Underneath the Monotonous Blanket is an Entire World of Different Voices: Rosemarie Chiarlone
Underneath the Monotonous Blanket is an Entire World of Different Voices, explores the physical and psychological boundaries of human connection addressing multifaceted societal and political contexts. This installation consists of eight disconnected sculptural groupings utilizing language as image. The visual graphic and poetic expressions dissipating information allude to the concept of presence and impermanence between the physical and the psychological.
The textual imagery is the result of the absence created by tiny pinholes in the paper. The words and phrases are inscribed by hand into the surface via bi-directional needle puncture. Each letter is formed by a profusion of tiny perforations with some serving as fissures in the surface while others erupt from below. Obscured, variably shaped and sized letters create a maze-like and irregularly textured image within three-dimensional formations.
The work metaphorically elicits the viewer to question the visual and textual meaning and to explore the communicative transparency and obscurity of the convoluted boundaries between the physical and the psychological. In its irreverent poetic impracticality, the work reveals multiple connotations pertaining to the changing milieu of our world.
