Information
“Because watercolor actually moves on the paper, it is the most active of all mediums, almost a performance art.” (Nita Engle)
Watercolor outside the lines! Learn several techniques of watercolor from realism to abstraction. These are a series of workshops that will explore this medium in a variety of aspects.
Students are going to realistically paint a still life constructed in their house using watercolors, practice draftsmanship, learn the basics of 2D design and mix all seven colors learning the basics of color theory.
There will be a critique after class every day as well as a slide sharing document that will be updated with the student’s work. Ariel will leave a written evaluation on this document. This class has an IG account @artwithabr where all participants can share class photos and works.
About the Instructor
Ariel Baron-Robbins has been teaching at the college level for over 10 years. She earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting and Drawing and her Master of Fine Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies. She has a personal relationship with watercolors as she learned how to paint with them at an early age. Her mother, Paula Temple (Professor Emeritus of Painting at the University of Mississippi) and Ariel would go on “exploring walks” with their paints and paper and create works outside. Ariel continued in her mother’s footsteps and became a Professor herself specializing in painting and drawing and progressing into video art and photography. Ariel is an Oolite Arts alumnus (2014-2016) and drawing, watercolor, and digital art instructor.
