Information
Even the simplest sketch can become the spark for a vivid, expressive painting. In this workshop, artist Will McGaul will guide you through the process of transforming your drawings, whether quick studies or detailed sketches, into finished works of art rich with color, movement, and life.
Through demonstrations and hands-on practice, you’ll learn how to enlarge and transfer your drawings using a grid system, explore how to develop a cohesive color palette or key, and experiment with techniques to make your image more dynamic and engaging. Will’s approachable teaching style will help you see your sketches as springboards for creativity rather than static outlines.
By the end of the 2-day workshop, each participant will complete at least one finished painting and share their creative journey with the group. Faster-paced students are welcome to explore multiple versions or different sketches, experimenting freely along the way.
Acrylic, watercolor, or pastel are welcome, so you can work in your favorite or try something new.
Come discover how to bring your sketches to life with color, texture, and personal expression!
