Skills: Documentary Development Workshop
This workshop is open to all documentary filmmakers and will provide a program led by Caitlin Mae Burke and Merrill Sterritt from IF/Then that will feature various discussions involving how to get one’s documentary film off the ground and out to audiences around the country.
Topics will include a review of national/international funding sources, development of materials for a successful application or pitch (including a review of the Documentary Core Application), and an introduction to festival and distribution strategy. Active case studies for each scenario will be presented by producer Darcy McKinnon (THE NEUTRAL GROUND; LOOK AT ME: XXXTENTACION.)
Miami filmmaker Jayme Gershen will share her Emmy-winning short documentary SIX DEGREES OF IMMIGRATION, then join in a moderated conversation to discuss her growth as a filmmaker and the expansion of this film and other projects.
The workshop will be followed by a social happy hour.
This event is free yet space is limited. RSVP required.
