About the Exhibition
Crossing the Bridge investigates the concept of being an alumnus of an arts institution through the work of five artists who delve into their own experiences and share their artistic practices, both as quiet expansions and defiant departures—to help inform its meaning.
Themes include legacy and institutional integration, activating objects infused with history and meaning, modes of commemoration, ways in which communities collate and why, and the cross-sections of concept and reality.
As a geographical play, Crossing the Bridge invites Miamians to visit the exhibition on Miami Beach. The exhibition platform operates as a reunion space, bridging artists’ experiences across time periods and binding them together by an interest in collective connectivity and, often, materiality. The exhibition and catalogue also ensure space for viewers to experience artists’ evolution beyond the display and embody the tender processes of collaborative exhibition-making.

This will coincide with the opening of Crossing the Bridge in the main gallery and the Oolite Arts Student Showcase in the Vitrine.
