Now Hold on Just a Minute Here:
Kelly Breez
‘Now Hold on Just a Minute Here’ is an installation and visual diary of the artists’ ennui surrounding her feelings of being jilted by the ol’ space-time continuum. Finding herself somehow *still* incapable of comprehending that it is 2021, Breez implements fragments of found objects from her studio and her immediate daily surroundings, reaching out to the viewer. She asks with hope: Same for you? Can we commiserate? Did you manage to process 2020 and if so PLEASE TELL ME HOW.
Breez uses objects that appear aimless in other surroundings. However, while displayed together in these windows, they find glory and meaning, much like she aims to feel in her own current struggle to make sense of–how in Gods name is half of 2021 is already over? The use of these objects is an attempt to feel physically rooted even while feeling unable to locate oneself in the cosmic swirl. We examine the passage of time while feeling stuck in just that.
About the Artist
Kelly Breez is a multidisciplinary artist whose work chronicles the perfectly unholy attitude and landscape of South Florida, where the characters she grew up with left the decorum and prohibitions of elitist culture in the dust. She works in -and combines- illustration, sculpture, tufting, painting, and installation. Breez holds a BFA from New World School of the Arts.
