Marisabela Tellería was born in Nicaragua and moved to the United States in 1978. She earned a BFA in sculpture from Florida International University in Miami (1993) and an MFA in sculpture from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond (1996). Over the course of her career, she has lived and worked as a professional artist in Washington, D.C., New York City, Managua, and Miami.
Tellería is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice spans painting, sculpture, and installation. Rooted in abstraction, her work explores themes of visual perception and sensorial experience, creating meditative environments that invite slow looking and deep reflection on how we perceive and relate to the world around us.
Her work has been exhibited in museums and galleries across the United States, Latin America, and Europe, with notable presentations at the Brooklyn Museum; El Museo del Barrio, New York; the Buffalo AKG Art Museum; the National Museum of Women in the Arts, Washington, D.C.; the Frost Art Museum, Miami; and the Pérez Art Museum Miami. Her work is included in several prominent permanent collections, including the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden; the National Museum of Women in the Arts; the Frost Art Museum; and the Pérez Art Museum Miami.
Tellería has received numerous accolades, including The Ellies Creator Award (2025), the Miami Individual Artist Grant (2022–2024), and the Corral & Cathers Professional Artist Fund Award (2024). She has also been featured in major biennials at El Museo del Barrio (New York), the Instituto de Cultura Puertorriqueña (San Juan), and the Museo de Arte Moderno (Santo Domingo).
Since 2014, she has been based in Miami, where she continues to develop new work and engage with the city’s vibrant artistic community.
