Yomarie Silva-O’Neal, born in Santurce, Puerto Rico in 1973, is a sculptor whose artistic practice focuses on small and seemingly insignificant biological forms. Her work expresses the intersection of her love of art and science, utilizing microscopic imagery of fungi, lichen, and insects. She uses repetition and abstraction in her sculptures, often altering their scale and the way viewers encounter them. Her work intends to display the order in nature and the artistry in science.
In addition to her artistic practice, Ms. Silva-O’Neal has been a professor at Miami Dade College for over 18 years, teaching Sculpture, 3-D Design, Drawing, and Art Appreciation. Her teaching approach emphasizes hands-on problem-solving and self-expression through various materials and subject matter. She has exhibited her work along the East Coast and in Texas and is currently working with LnS Gallery.
