Fluid Marks Through Mesh: Silk Screen Monoprint Intensive.
This dynamic 6-hour workshop merges the immediacy of monoprinting with the unique textures and possibilities of the screen printing process, enhanced by the fluid nature of water-soluble crayons and traditional inks. Explore creating one-of-a-kind prints by drawing directly onto the screen with water-soluble crayons and combining these marks with the rich colors of screen printing ink. This intensive session is perfect for those seeking to blend drawing, painting, and printmaking in an exciting and unpredictable way.
You’ll learn how to harness the translucent quality of the screen to create unique painterly effects, build layers of color and texture, and achieve results that are both surprising and deeply personal. This workshop welcomes all levels of experience, encouraging experimentation and the discovery of your own visual language within this hybrid printmaking form.
What You’ll Learn:
- Understanding Silk Screen Monoprint: Explore how to use the screen as a direct drawing surface for creating unique, non-editionable prints.
- The Magic of Water-Soluble Crayons on Screen: Discover how to draw and apply water-soluble crayons directly onto the screen mesh, and how these marks interact with ink and water.
- Combining Ink and Crayon: Learn techniques for layering screen printing ink over or under crayon marks to create varied effects, textures, and color interactions.
- Direct Drawing and Painting on the Screen: Explore using ink and even thinned paint directly on the screen mesh for spontaneous mark-making.
- Creating Washes and Blends: Discover how to introduce water to your crayon marks on the screen to create washes and soft blended areas within your print.
- Working with Stencils and Masks in Combination: Learn how to integrate stencils and masks with your crayon and ink applications for added definition and layering.
- Exploring Pressure and Mark Transfer: Understand how different pressures during the printing process affect the transfer of both ink and crayon.
- Safe Studio Practices: Learn how to work safely with screen printing inks and water-soluble materials.
All necessary consumable supplies will be provided, including screens, squeegees, water-soluble crayons, and screen printing inks. Participants are encouraged to bring sketches or visual ideas.
By the end of this exciting workshop, you’ll have a collection of vibrant and unique silk screen monoprints that showcase the beautiful interplay between drawing, painting, and printmaking. You’ll leave with a deeper understanding of this versatile technique and the inspiration to continue pushing the boundaries of your creative expression.
Break: A 30-minute break will be scheduled after the third hour, allowing participants to relax and refresh.
Refund & Cancellation Policy: Attendees can request refunds up to 24 hours before the class starts. Classes must meet a minimum enrollment number to run.
