In this session, editors from both local and national publications will provide insight into the editing process, and what to keep in mind when editing your own text or working alongside an editor.
About the Speakers
Jason Katz is a writer, editor, and publisher born and raised in Miami. He is a contributing editor for Burnaway Magazine and the publisher of Islandia Journal. He’s written for the Miami New Times, Bitter Southerner, Ploughshares, Untitled Art, and Hollywood Arts & Culture Center. Jason was a contributing writer to Florida!, a guidebook published by A24 Films.
Monica Uszerowicz is a writer and photographer born in Brooklyn and raised in Florida. Her work has appeared in Artforum, The Believer, BOMB, Burnaway, Cultured, DEEM, The Los Angeles Review of Books, The New York Review of Books, Pin-Up, and elsewhere. In 2020, she received an Andy Warhol Arts Writers Grant for Groundwater, an essay series about Floridian and Caribbean artists whose work elucidates or works to mitigate the local effects of climate change. She recently received an Ellies Creator Award and a Wavemaker Grant for Dreaming as the Water Rises, a project examining dreams about water and the climate crisis in Florida. Her photographs have been exhibited globally and most recently on display at Miami art space Oolite Arts, as part of the group show Feels Like 97°. In 2015, Monica trained as a birth and postpartum doula.
