Oolite Arts at NADA Art Fair / Diego Gabaldon
For the 2026 edition of NADA Art Fair, Oolite Arts will support an exhibition of the work of 2026 Oolite Arts resident Diego Gabaldon.
EGO-LIFT, a series of sculptural works drawing from bodybuilding culture that abstract cast barbell plates and fitness equipment into psychological framing devices.
Diego Gabaldon works at the intersection of the psychology of competition, masculinity, mass media and the post-human body. Influenced by the cultures of bodybuilding and organized sport, his practice examines how ultra-fanaticism and the obsession with physical transformation shape identity.
Structured through the logics of sport, Gabaldon abstracts athletic equipment into apparatuses that frame, contain and probe desire, identity and violence, often incorporating constructed images and manipulated reference material drawn from sports archives, online bodybuilding forums and digital fitness subcultures. Within this framework, bodily autonomy and the drive to belong are examined as they are constructed, conditioned and externalized through processes of remarkable excess.
