Oolite Arts Conversations Presents Edouard Duval-Carrié in Dialogue with Guillermina De Ferrari
Internationally acclaimed Haitian-born artist and Guggenheim Fellow scholar explore Caribbean art, memory, migration, and cultural identity
MIAMI, Fla. (June 15, 2026) — Oolite Arts will present the next installment of its Oolite Arts Conversations series on Thursday, June 25, featuring internationally renowned artist Edouard Duval-Carrié in conversation with curator, critic, and scholar Guillermina De Ferrari. The free public event will take place from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Proscenium Theatre at the Little Haiti Cultural Complex in Miami.
Part of Oolite Arts’ platform for contemporary art dialogue, the conversation will explore Caribbean and diasporic culture through the lens of art, history, migration, memory, and identity.
Born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, Duval-Carrié is one of the most influential artists working in the Caribbean diaspora today. Forced into exile during the regime of François Duvalier, he lived and worked throughout the Caribbean, North America, and Europe before settling in Miami. His paintings, sculptures, and installations draw from Haitian history, Vodou symbolism, and the enduring legacies of colonialism, creating richly layered works that examine the complexities of migration, displacement, and cultural memory.
A key figure in advancing Haitian art on the international stage, Duval-Carrié represented Haiti in the country’s first national pavilion at the Venice Biennale in 2011 and was named a Chevalier of France’s Ordre des Arts et des Lettres in 2014. His work was included in documenta fifteen in 2022 and will be featured in the 61st Venice Biennale in 2026.
Joining him will be Guillermina De Ferrari, a Guggenheim Fellow whose research and curatorial practice focus on Caribbean literature, visual culture, archives, and contemporary art. De Ferrari is the author of Vulnerable States: Bodies of Memory in Contemporary Caribbean Fiction and the forthcoming Broken Tropics: Contingency in Contemporary Caribbean Art. Her work has helped shape critical conversations around Caribbean and Haitian cultural production within broader transnational and postcolonial contexts.
Launched in 2026 and organized by Rina Carvajal, Senior Director of Programs at Oolite Arts, Oolite Arts Conversations convenes artists, curators, museum professionals, and cultural thinkers in rigorous and engaging public dialogue. The inaugural season features leading international figures including Antoni Miralda, Edouard Duval-Carrié, Ralph Rugoff, and Cuauhtémoc Medina.
