Oolite Arts’ Media Art Salon series fostered community and critical dialogue around new media in Miami. Digital Arts Fellow Kelani Nichole oversaw an experimental Media Art Lab that provided one-on-one support to artists incorporating technology into their practice, and curated interactive salon gatherings.
This publication documents the year-long fellowship, in which Nichole produced four salon programs featuring work-in-progress installations from Leo Castañeda, Lauren Monzón, Cynthia Cruz, Fabiola Larios, Moises Sanabria, Daniel Temkin, Madeline Gannon, Jay Mollica, Juan Ledesma, AdrienneRose Gionta, Tara Long, Ruth Burrote, T. Wheeler Castillo, Lee Pivnik, Fereshteh Toosi and Felice Grodin.
The salons were organized around themes that emerged from the studios: Recursive Value, Generative Generosity, Fluid Identity and Unstable Ecologies. The publication opens with an essay from Nichole titled Encoding Miami, followed by a summary of each salon gathering and the impact it had on the artist’s practice.
Oolite Arts’ Media Art Salon Series was made possible through the support of the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, enhancing the way Oolite artists, and Oolite as an organization, use technology to elevate their work.
