About the Opening
Opening Reception of Altered States of Consciousness
+ Exhibition opening and Resident Night: Meet our 2019 Studio Artists
+ Miami Beach Culture Crawl
Join us for the opening night of Altered States of Consciousness, curated by Claire Breukel, Director and Chief Curator of YES Contemporary, El Salvador.
At 7:00 pm, our exhibition will open and showcase works by our 16 resident artists. With their studios outside of the gallery open this evening as well, guests curious about a specific exhibition work can then meet with the artist and check out their creative spaces.
From 6:00 – 10:00 pm, we’ll also be participating in the Miami Beach Culture Crawl, a night of free admission to Miami Beach’s top arts and culture institutions—including the New World Symphony, The Wolfsonian, The Bass, and the Miami Beach Botanical Gardens.
Guests are invited to join us and continue on to an evening of art on the beach.
*+ The Ellies Info Session #1
At 6:00 pm, before the opening reception we will host our first Ellies info session. Miami’s Visual Arts awards returns!
Learn how to apply for a grant and win up to $20,000 in funding from a pool of $500,000 being offered to local artists.
About the Exhibition, Altered States of Consciousness
Inspired by an open-ended psychological term, the exhibition, Altered States of Consciousness (ASC) features fifteen artists whose work, although vast in approach, is aligned around the theme of reality versus ‘alternate’ realities. Neither utopic nor dystopic, but rather questioning, these artists explore precarious real estate, (non) identity and existentialism, technology and the effects of movement. Read more here.
